1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Lain Dain collects, uses, stores, shares, protects, and deletes information when you use the Lain Dain app, website, and related services.

By using Lain Dain, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

This Privacy Policy should be read together with the Lain Dain Terms and Conditions.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

We may collect information you provide when you create or manage an account, such as:

  • name;
  • phone number;
  • email address;
  • profile photo or avatar;
  • login method and authentication details;
  • language, currency, and notification preferences;
  • account settings and support details.

2.2 Contacts Information

If you allow contact access, Lain Dain may access contact names, phone numbers, and/or email addresses from your device to help you find friends, match existing users, invite contacts, or make it easier to add people to expenses and ledgers.

Contact access is optional. You can deny or remove contact permission through your device settings. If you deny contact access, some discovery or invitation features may not work as smoothly.

2.3 Photos, Gallery, Camera, and Attachments

If you allow photo, gallery, or camera access, Lain Dain may let you select or upload images such as profile photos, group images, receipts, screenshots, bills, or other expense attachments.

We access only the content you select or upload, unless your device operating system requires broader permission for the feature to work. You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to upload or share any image or attachment.

2.4 Expense, Ledger, and Settlement Records

When you use Lain Dain, we collect and store information needed to provide the Service, such as:

  • personal expenses, shared expenses, categories, amounts, dates, split methods, participants, payer details, notes, tags, merchants, attachments, and comments;
  • group and individual ledger names, member lists, roles, invitations, settings, balances, summaries, and activity history;
  • settlement records, confirmations, disputes, reminders, edits, deletions, and audit logs;
  • reports, filters, exports, and other app activity created through the Service.

2.5 Information Shared by Other Users

Other users may add your name, phone number, email address, profile information, expense share, settlement status, comments, or related details to Lain Dain when they create expenses, ledgers, groups, invitations, or reminders involving you.

2.6 Device, Usage, and Technical Information

We may automatically collect technical and usage information, including device type, operating system, app version, IP address, approximate location based on network information, crash logs, performance data, pages or features used, actions taken, dates and times of use, notification status, and security logs.

2.7 Communications and Support

If you contact us, report a problem, send feedback, or request support, we may collect your message, contact details, screenshots, logs, and any information needed to respond.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • create, verify, secure, and manage accounts;
  • provide expense tracking, splitting, ledgers, balances, reminders, settlement records, reports, and exports;
  • show relevant expense or ledger information to selected users and group members;
  • help users find contacts and invite people, where permission is given;
  • send OTPs, account alerts, reminders, notifications, service messages, and support replies;
  • detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, misuse, spam, unauthorized access, bugs, and security incidents;
  • improve app performance, user experience, features, design, analytics, and product decisions;
  • understand aggregated usage trends, such as feature use, category trends, retention, and app performance;
  • comply with applicable laws, legal processes, government requests, regulatory obligations, or enforcement needs.

4. Who Can See Your Information

Lain Dain is designed around shared expenses and ledgers. Information you add may be visible to the people you choose to share it with, including individual ledger participants, group members, group admins, and people included in an expense or settlement record.

For example, if you add an expense in a group, group members may see details such as amount, description, date, category, payer, participants, split details, notes, comments, attachments, edit history, and settlement status, depending on the feature and settings available.

You should not add sensitive personal information to a shared ledger, group, note, comment, image, or attachment unless you are comfortable with the relevant participants seeing it.

5. Sharing with Service Providers

We may share information with trusted service providers who help us operate Lain Dain, such as cloud hosting, database storage, authentication, OTP delivery, SMS or messaging, email, push notifications, analytics, crash reporting, security, customer support, design, development, and legal or compliance services.

These providers are allowed to use information only as needed to provide services to us, protect the Service, comply with law, or fulfill agreed business purposes.

6. Sharing for Legal, Safety, and Security Reasons

We may access, preserve, or disclose information if we reasonably believe it is necessary to:

  • comply with applicable law, court orders, legal process, or government requests;
  • enforce our Terms and Conditions;
  • detect, prevent, or address fraud, security issues, spam, abuse, or technical problems;
  • protect the rights, safety, property, reputation, or interests of Lain Dain, users, our team, service providers, or the public;
  • investigate user reports, disputes, or misuse.

7. Aggregated and De-Identified Information

We may use aggregated, statistical, or de-identified information for product improvement, research, analytics, business planning, marketing, investor reporting, and understanding user behavior. This type of information is not intended to identify you personally.

8. Marketing and Communications

We may send you service-related messages, such as OTPs, security alerts, reminders, account updates, and important notices. These are necessary for the Service and may not always be optional.

We may send promotional or marketing messages where allowed by law and your preferences. You can opt out of marketing messages through available settings or unsubscribe methods, but you may still receive necessary service messages.

9. Cookies, Analytics, and Similar Technologies

If Lain Dain uses a website, web app, or similar tools, we may use cookies, local storage, device identifiers, SDKs, pixels, or analytics tools to keep you signed in, improve performance, understand usage, detect fraud, and improve the Service.

10. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Lain Dain, maintain records, support users, improve the Service, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, comply with law, enforce our Terms, and fulfill legitimate business needs.

Some information may remain in backups, logs, archives, audit history, or security systems for a limited period after deletion from active systems. We may also retain certain information if required for legal, security, fraud prevention, dispute, or compliance reasons.

11. Account Deletion and Data Requests

You may request account deletion through available app settings or by contacting us. After account deletion, we will take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify your personal information, subject to retention needed for legal, security, fraud prevention, backups, dispute handling, audit history, or legitimate business purposes.

Because Lain Dain includes shared ledgers, expenses, groups, and settlement records, deleting one account may not remove all records visible to other users. For example, group records, amounts, comments, attachments, or history involving other users may remain where needed to preserve ledger accuracy, audit history, or the records of remaining participants.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical, organizational, and administrative measures designed to protect information, such as access controls, secure infrastructure, encryption where appropriate, monitoring, and security reviews.

However, no app, website, database, cloud service, network, or method of electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that information will always remain secure, available, accurate, recoverable, or free from unauthorized access, loss, deletion, corruption, or misuse.

13. Data Loss and Accuracy

Lain Dain depends on user input and technology systems. Data may be incorrect, incomplete, delayed, changed, lost, or deleted due to user actions, group member actions, admin actions, device problems, app bugs, sync conflicts, cloud provider issues, security incidents, maintenance, or events outside our control.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lain Dain is not responsible for accidental deletion, unexpected data loss, incorrect balances, missing history, failed backups, unrecoverable records, or decisions made based on user-entered data.

14. International Processing and Storage

Your information may be stored or processed where our service providers operate. Those countries may have different data protection rules. We use reasonable measures designed to protect information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

15. Children and Minors

Lain Dain is not intended for young children. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child where parental or guardian consent is legally required, we may delete the information or take other appropriate steps.

16. Your Choices and Controls

Depending on the features available, you may be able to:

  • edit your profile information;
  • change notification preferences;
  • allow or deny contacts, photos, camera, location, and notification permissions through your device settings;
  • leave groups or individual ledgers where the app permits;
  • delete certain expenses, notes, attachments, or records, subject to permissions and audit history;
  • request account deletion or contact support about your data.

17. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We may notify you through the app, website, email, or other reasonable method. The updated Privacy Policy will be effective when posted or when stated in the update notice.

If you continue using Lain Dain after the updated Privacy Policy becomes effective, you agree to the updated Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Service.
